Book one way car rental on prices of your choice and options

Heading out?  Book a one-way car rental, including the price you want, with a little research before you leave the driveway.

One-way car rentals are, in most peoples’ opinions, much more expensive than the standard rental agreements.  But they don’t have to be.  There are several tricks you can use to keep the price reasonable and still give yourself the flexibility you need.

First of all, rent from a larger company.  They have rental counters in multiple locations, and you’re likely to find a drop-off location at or near your destination.  They also often advertise rates on one-way rentals, and sometimes—though not often—will run specials when they have too many cars in one location.

There are many advantages to a one-way rental, one of the biggest being that you save wear and tear on your own vehicle.  And for a vacation, there’s nothing better than combining the benefits of flying and driving.

If you have limited time for your vacation, you can fly to your destination and then book a one-way car rental for your return trip and enjoy the trip.   The one-way drive will give you enough time to avoid feeling rushed.  Get out of your car at scenic locations and snap some pictures.  Stop for a picnic lunch, or at a little roadside diner.

None of these things are possible when you fly both ways. Yet driving both ways often requires more time than you want to spend, so the one-way rental is the perfect solution.

Compare prices using the internet and also calling various rental companies.  Tell them you’re looking for a one-way rental, and tell them the two cities—but also let them know you’re flexible (within reason) on the pick-up and return locations.  You may find that a city just a few miles away on either end can save you quite a bit of money.

Everyone has an opinion about the amenities they’d like in their rental car, and this is where you might have to be a little more flexible.  Most large companies offer automatic transmission and air conditioning, radio, and things like this.  But if you’re looking for others, like car seats, roof racks, or other things, those might be a little harder to arrange in a one way rental.

Car rental companies might need to move the vehicle itself between locations, but rarely do they need to move some of the extra equipment.  Be sure to ask up front about anything specific that you require, like a bicycle rack, so there’s no last-minute changes.  And if the rental company can honor your request, be sure you get that stipulation in your rental contract, in writing.

One-way car rentals are some of the most overlooked options available out there.  Make the most of your next vacation by turning it into a fly-drive trip.  See the country and have a restful trip.  That’s what a vacation is all about!
