Kona is a district of what is commonly called the Big Island in Hawaii. Hawaii is of course known for its many stunning natural attractions, and Kona is no different in that regard. Majestic ocean views, glorious sunsets, endless miles of beaches, and gorgeous wind swept cliffs are only some of the sights that will greet the visitor who is lucky enough to visit Kona. These are only some of the reasons why Kona is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Hawaii, which certainly has no shortage of interesting places to see and things to do.

Of course in order to see as many of the attractions of Kona as possible, you will need a convenient means of transport, and car rental services are your best option. There are many taxis that service the island and they should be more than adequate for your needs if you only plan to be in town for a day or two. Any longer than that however, and it is simply more economical to rent a car, which the many car rental services all over the island will only be too happy to provide. Besides, nothing can quite compare to the experience of getting around on the island with the top down and feeling the refreshing island breeze blowing through your hair as you check out the stunning vistas, which are abundant all over the island.  The good news is that the roads all over Kona are generally pretty good, although a bit narrow and winding in some places, so a rental car is your best bet for getting around.

If you are planning to visit Kona, you would be well advised to book your rental car well in advance in order to avoid being placed on a waiting list and possibly even having to be subjected to last minute price increases. Most of the car rental companies that service the island require major credit cards for car rental transactions. It would be a good idea to compare rates and features of the different car rental companies before you arrive on the island and ask about what form of payment they accept.

If you have any special requirements with regard to the car that you are renting, it is also a good idea to ask the car rental company about these in advance. Take note that you may have to pay an additional fee for features such as infant car seats or roof racks, although many companies will simply include these in the car rental package.

While it is easy enough to get around Kona even if it is your first time in town–the locals are only too willing to help you out if you get lost in most cases and there are signs posted all over the islands–you may want to ask the car rental company about a GPS system for your rental car. This will allow you to get around the island easily and safely and keep you from getting lost.
